Improving the quality of training to meet the tourism labor market demand

Currently, Vietnam has over 1.3 million tourism employees, accounting for about 2.5% of the total labor force nationwide; of which only 42% are trained in tourism, 38% are trained from other sectors and about 20% have not received formal training but only on-the-job training.(*) Hoa Sen University has always cooperated closely with tourism businesses to grasp the needs of the market, update the training program to meet the requirements of employers.

In the Vietnam Tourism Human Resources Forum 2019, a group of speakers including Dr. Le Minh Thanh, Dr. Nguyen Minh Anh and Ms. Truong Thi Kim Oanh presented the presentation "Effective cooperation between Hoa Sen University and tourism enterprises". The presentation raised the experience of Hoa Sen University - Faculty of Tourism in cooperating with Vatel and Novaland corporations.

Hoa Sen University - Faculty of Tourism with its existing strengths such as the faculty members are mostly trained, and exchanged experiences from major international universities (Switzerland , USA, England, France, Finland, Scotland and Singapore), students have access to exciting extracurricular activities and carry out specialized projects. Besides, the training program integrated with start-up projects in open environment is a good opportunity for students to create creativity and connect global culture.

The cooperation with Vatel - Hotel, Tourism Business School (French Republic) has been conducted by Hoa Sen University since 2012. Take advantage of Vatel International as a member of the Eurhodip Association – a leading international association with the main focus on the quality, vitality, and public standing of hospitality and tourism education, Hoa Sen University has regularly updated the training program based on international trends. Vatel students have learned theory alternating with practice at Vatel restaurant and other restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City. After graduation, students are always appreciated by employers in restaurant - hotel industry in terms of professionalism, active and effective working spirit and fluent foreign language ability.

In the field of tourism services, Hoa Sen University has been selected by Novaland to be a partner in training and supplying human resources for the service and tourism sectors of the group's projects. In the future, Novaland Group has determined to expand the development of resort and tourism real estate in tourist cities such as Phu Quoc, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria Vung Tau, Phan Thiet, Ninh Thuan, ... This is an opportunity for students to have a final internship, and work at Novaland's tourism, restaurant, and hotel facilities. In addition, there will be a connection between the institution and the enterprise, attracting leading experts in the field of tourism, restaurants and hotels to exchange experiences and scientific research; create conditions for experts of the two parties to participate in training activities, practice teaching, fostering professional knowledge based on comprehensive and sustainable cooperation.

Mr. Bui Xuan Huy, General Director of Novaland Group and Prof. Dr. Mai Hong Quy - President of Hoa Sen University signed an agreement.

Quality of Vietnamese tourism human resources is receiving a great attention from management, enterprises and domestic, international training institutions. Therefore, shaking hands between large corporations in the tourism sector and training institutions will create a good premise for the development and improvement of the quality of Vietnamese tourism human resources.
